The Port Authority Heroes of September 11 Trauma Center is named to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001. The Regional Trauma Center is the state designated Level II Trauma Center for Hudson County. In addition to its responsibility for the region's growing community neighborhoods and sprawling business districts, the Trauma Center and the hospital's Emergency Medical Service cover the county's waterways, the New Jersey Turnpike, the Holland and Lincoln Tunnels, and Liberty State Park. The Center provides 24 hour trauma surgery for adults and children. The Center has been active in all regional disasters including the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, several train derailments and HAZMAT incidents, Presidential Visits, and was New Jersey's major responder on and after September 11.
The mission of the Port Authority Heroes of September 11 Trauma Center is to provide the highest quality immediate care and ongoing intervention to patients suffering life threatening injuries, to avail itself as a community resource for issues relating to injury prevention, and to provide education to professional staff and the public. This mission is achieved through the collaborative efforts of dedicated Emergency Medical Service workers, fire responders, the Emergency Department, Board Certified Trauma and sub-specialty Surgeons, Surgical Physician Assistants, Anesthesiologists, Certified Trauma Nurses, Critical Care Nurses, Interventional and Specialized Radiologists, dedicated operating rooms, social services, case management, and the Department of Rehabilitative Medicine.
