J. Christopher DiGiacomo, M.D.

J. Christopher DiGiacomo, M.D., F.A.C.S., is the Director of the Port Authority Heroes of September 11 Trauma Center at the Jersey City Medical Center in Jersey City, N. J.

Dr. DiGiacomo grew up outside Philadelphia, and graduated from the Haverford School. He earned his Bachelors of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in the Biologic Basis of Behavior, International Relations, and Biology, and minored in Chemistry and History. He earned his Medical Degree from the Temple University School of Medicine, also in Philadelphia. After an internship at the New Rochelle Medical Center (now Sound Shore Medical Center), he completed his surgical residency at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton, New Jersey. Dr. DiGiacomo then completed a two year fellowship in Trauma and Surgical Critical Care at the University of Pennsylvania.

Prior to joining the faculty and staff of Jersey City Medical Center, Dr. DiGiacomo was the Acting Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the Nassau University Medical Center as well as the Surgery Residency Program Director, Associate Director of Trauma, Associate Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, an Associate Professor of Surgery with the Medical School at SUNY-Stony Brook, and a Clinical Adjunct Associate Professor of Surgery at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. He has received numerous academic and National awards, including being named in Who's Who for America, Who's Who in Health and Medical Services, and Who's Who in Finance and Industry, and America's Top Surgeons by the Consumer's Research Council of America.

Dr. DiGiacomo is board certified in Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, and Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine. He serves on the Editorial Board of Current Surgery, and is an ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of Trauma, Annals of Emergency Medicine, Military Medicine, and Hospital Physician.

Dr. DiGiacomo is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, and the Philadelphia College of Physicians. He is also a member of the American Trauma Society, Association of Military Surgeons of the United States, Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, Societé Internationale de Chirurgie, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), Society of Critical Care Medicine, Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, Shock Society, and the Western Trauma Association.

He is the author of over 50 academic publications.
